Company Credentials

EPA Lead-Safe Firm

Rickman Building Company is certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule to safely renovate residential properties built prior to 1978.

The EPA RRP Rule & Lead Hazards

Lead-based paint was commonly used in homes constructed before 1978. When these structures are renovated, standard sanding, dry scraping, and demolition release microscopic lead dust into the air and soil. Lead exposure causes cognitive damage, behavioral issues, and organ damage—particularly in children under six and pregnant women.

The EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) Rule mandates that contractors working in older homes undergo specific safety training, obtain firm certification, and employ dust-containment practices.

Our Lead-Safe Protocols

Every renovation we execute on a pre-1978 home starts with an active lead screening and incorporates strict safety containment systems:

  • Dust Containment Barriers We seal off the work area using heavy-duty plastic sheeting, enclosing windows, vents, doors, and floors to prevent dust from migrating to other zones of the home.
  • Wet Scraping & HEPA Tooling We employ misting tools to scrape wet paint (minimizing airborne dust) and run sanders linked directly to certified HEPA-filter vacuums.
  • Comprehensive Cleanup & Validation Once construction is done, we perform vacuum clean-ups, wet mopping, and verify the space meets EPA lead-clearance levels via testing wipes.
